Program Overview

Green Charge has secured funds to provide load reduction services in the Crown Heights, Ridgewood, and Richmond Hill neighborhoods as part of Con Edison’s Neighborhood Program. The purpose of the program is to reduce stress on the electrical grid and defer or prevent costly transmission system upgrades as energy consumption grows in the region.

Green Charge is looking for customers in the highlighted area on the map willing to have energy storage installed on site. By reducing load during a few designated periods in the summer, significant savings and revenues can be realized. This curtailment will be achieved through a combination of automated demand response (DR) with battery energy storage and traditional DR (such as lighting and HVAC adjustments). In exchange for participation, Green Charge site host customers will receive energy cost savings over multiple years, beginning in 2017.

Facility Operations Impact – Energy Storage Demand Response

Facilities with battery energy storage will experience no impact to operations. During events, your facility will simply draw energy from the battery instead of the grid, without any noticeable change.

Facility Operations Impact – Traditional Demand Response

Facilities participating in traditional demand response will experience minor changes to their energy usage patterns, such as partially reduced lighting or reduced HVAC. These changes will occur infrequently during late evening hours.

  • Event Hours: 8pm – midnight, May 1 – Sept 30
  • Events per Year: 4-6
